Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept Previews 1,341 HP Electric Hyper Sedan

Mercedes-AMG has lifted the veil on the Concept AMG GT XX, a dramatic and powerful statement of intent as the brand moves into the high-performance electric sedan market. Serving as a preview of the forthcoming production model—believed to be the AMG GT4 EV—this concept marks a decisive step away from the current V8 plug-in hybrid era and into the electric future of Affalterbach.

Packed with innovative design features and cutting-edge technology, the GT XX aims to shake up the electric performance sedan segment with a massive 1,341 horsepower and aggressive styling that has sparked debate across the automotive world.

Highlights at a Glance

  • Concept previews AMG’s first all-electric four-door hyper sedan
  • Expected production name: AMG GT4 EV
  • Electric tri-motor setup delivers up to 1,341 hp
  • Utilizes AMG.EA dedicated EV platform with 800V architecture
  • Interior design merges digital tech with sustainable materials
  • Simulated V8 sounds projected through headlights for sensory effect
  • Direct rivals include Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S, and Lucid Air
  • Production expected in 2026 for the 2027 model year

An Electrifying New Chapter for AMG

The Concept AMG GT XX is more than just a design exercise—it’s a performance manifesto. Meant to succeed the current AMG GT 4-Door hybrid, this new fully electric flagship pushes the boundaries of both styling and capability.

Its fastback proportions, low stance, and bold aerodynamic elements set it apart from more traditional sedans. The front end features a shark-like nose and an active shutter grille, flanked by tri-element DRLs shaped like the Mercedes-Benz star. From the rear, circular triple taillights and a wide diffuser hint at Ferrari-like aggression, while flush door handles and frameless windows reinforce its aerodynamic profile.

Inside the Cabin: Technology Meets Sustainability

While the GT XX’s interior won’t arrive exactly as shown, the concept signals what to expect in the production version. The dashboard is upright and driver-focused, featuring digital displays, circular air vents, and a wide infotainment panel.

In a nod to sustainability, AMG is testing new materials, including a leather alternative called LABFIBER, developed from recycled racing tires. Though the yoke-style steering wheel is unlikely to reach customers, touch-capacitive controls and a stylized airbag cover are expected to remain.

Performance: 1,341 HP and Sub-2 Second Acceleration

The AMG GT XX Concept is powered by three axial-flux electric motors—one at the front and two at the rear—engineered by Yasa, Mercedes’ UK-based electric motor specialist.

With a combined output of 1,341 hp (986 kW), the GT4 EV will rival the fastest EVs on the market. A less extreme 945 hp variant is also reportedly in development. According to early estimates, the tri-motor model will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (0–96 km/h) in under two seconds and reach a top speed of 200 mph (320 km/h).

To enhance emotional engagement, AMG has fitted speakers into the headlights to simulate a V8 engine soundtrack, complete with artificial gearshift sensations—a bold attempt to bridge the gap between combustion and electrification.

Technical Platform: AMG.EA Architecture and F1-Inspired Battery

Built on the new AMG.EA platform, the GT XX concept incorporates an 800-volt architecture, allowing for extreme performance and ultra-fast charging. The battery pack, derived from Formula 1 technology, is expected to exceed 100 kWh and house over 3,000 liquid-cooled cylindrical cells.

Charging capabilities are equally impressive, with up to 248 miles (400 km) of range recoverable in just five minutes on a compatible high-speed charger. Estimated total range is projected around 450 miles (724 km), positioning the GT4 EV as a true long-range performance contender.

Setting Its Sights on Elite Competition

With its anticipated specs and aggressive styling, the AMG GT4 EV is clearly targeting the top end of the EV performance market. Competitors include the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, Tesla Model S Plaid, Lucid Air Sapphire, BMW i5 M60, and Lotus Emeya. Mercedes-AMG also plans to launch additional vehicles on the AMG.EA platform, including a high-performance crossover.

The GT4 EV’s price is expected to start above $200,000, securing its place among the most exclusive and technologically advanced electric cars in the world.

What Comes Next for AMG’s Electric Future

The Concept AMG GT XX marks the beginning of a new era for Mercedes-AMG. It promises extreme performance without sacrificing luxury or innovation. While the production model will undergo some design refinements, the core vision—uncompromised electric power paired with unmistakable AMG DNA—is intact.

With its official debut scheduled for later this year and deliveries beginning in 2026, the GT4 EV looks set to redefine what a high-performance electric sedan can be.
