Luxury Meets Sustainability: DS Automobiles Unveils the All-Electric DS N°8

French automaker DS Automobiles, the luxury arm of Stellantis, has taken a bold step into the future with the launch of its DS N°8, a fully electric fastback crossover. This striking flagship model not only redefines the brand’s identity but also introduces the innovative STLA Medium architecture for the first time in a production vehicle.

A Design Inspired by the Future

The DS N°8 draws significant design cues from the DS Aero Sport Lounge concept introduced in 2020. The exterior reflects a harmonious blend of aerodynamics and aesthetics. The sleek roofline and finely tuned bodywork achieve an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.24 cd, enhancing efficiency and extending range.

Key design highlights include:

  • A fully covered grille with an illuminated DS emblem.
  • Slim DS Pixel Vision headlights paired with sharp DRLs extending toward the bumper.
  • Steeply raked C-pillars leading to an integrated rear spoiler.
  • Duo-tone exterior with a deep black upper body finish complemented by subtle lower cladding.

Completing the exterior are 21-inch forged wheels, flush door handles, and the signature N°8 emblem on the tailgate.

Interior Elegance and Advanced Technology

Inside, the DS N°8 exemplifies luxury, combining premium materials with cutting-edge technology:

  • Displays and Controls: A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster sits behind a four-spoke steering wheel, accompanied by a 16-inch infotainment touchscreen and an augmented-reality head-up display.
  • Innovative Console: The “double-decker floating center console” features backlit star-inspired graphics and crystal-like switches.
  • Comfort and Audio: Massaging, heating, and cooling functions for front seats, with neck warmers and spacious, climate-controlled rear seats. The Electra 3D audio system by Focal integrates 14 speakers within perforated aluminum trims.
  • Sustainability: Upholstery options include Alcantara and full-grain Nappa leather made from recycled materials. A panoramic glass roof with infrared treatment enhances the cabin’s ambiance.

The cabin also boasts a generous 620-liter boot capacity, catering to practicality alongside luxury.

Electric Power and Performance

The DS N°8 is exclusively offered as an electric vehicle (EV), setting it apart from its STLA Medium siblings, including the Peugeot 3008/5008 and Opel Grandland. Key specifications include:

  • Powertrains: FWD models with 227 hp or 242 hp, and an AWD variant delivering up to 375 hp with a boost function.
  • Performance: The AWD version accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, with a top speed of 190 km/h.
  • Battery Options: 74 kWh and 97.2 kWh batteries provide ranges of up to 750 km (466 miles), with fast-charging capabilities reaching 200 kW DC.
  • Charging Efficiency: A 20-80% charge is achieved in just 27 minutes, and a home charger is included as standard.

Suspension, Comfort, and Autonomy

The DS N°8 enhances the driving experience with advanced suspension and semi-autonomous features:

  • Suspension: A variable damping system adjusts based on road conditions, scanned by a camera.
  • Sound Insulation: Ultra-absorbent materials and double-layer laminated glass ensure a quiet ride.
  • Autonomy: The DS Drive Assist 2.0 suite offers semi-autonomous capabilities for added safety and convenience.

Launch and Market Position

Measuring 4.82 meters in length, the DS N°8 is larger than the Peugeot 408 and Citroën C5 X but shorter than the DS 9 sedan. Positioned as the epitome of French luxury, it targets discerning customers seeking sustainability without compromising on style or performance.

The DS N°8 will be available in Europe starting mid-2025, with pricing to be revealed closer to launch. This model represents not just the future of DS Automobiles but also the evolution of luxury EVs in the automotive industry.
