A Bold Challenge to Tesla and Xiaomi

Chinese EV brand Xpeng has revealed the all-new G7 SUV, a mid-size electric crossover designed to disrupt the premium segment. Aimed directly at Tesla and Xiaomi, the G7 starts at ¥195,800 (around $27,325), making it ¥67,700 cheaper than the Tesla Model Y. This aggressive pricing doesn’t come at the expense of performance or technology — the G7 boasts impressive specs, a luxurious cabin, and AI-enhanced driving capabilities.

Design: Modern, Sleek, and Functional

The G7’s design features a distinctive shark-nose front and the signature Xpeng “X Face” — a full-width light bar paired with angular LED daytime running lights. The side profile is clean and futuristic, with curvaceous panels, flush door handles, and frameless mirrors. The SUV rides on 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels with black cladding to emphasize its crossover styling.

At the rear, a power liftgate, wraparound taillights, and blue LED strips signal when the vehicle is in autonomous driving mode.

Dimensions and Road Presence

Despite sharing the same 2,890 mm wheelbase as the Model Y, the G7 is larger in overall length, offering more interior space and luggage capacity.

SpecificationXpeng G7
Length4,892 mm (192.6 in)
Width1,925 mm (75.8 in)
Height1,655 mm (65.2 in)
Wheelbase2,890 mm (113.8 in)

Performance: Long Range and Strong Output

The Xpeng G7 is available in three variants:

  • 602 Long Battery Life Max
  • 702 Ultra-Long Battery Life Max
  • 702 Ultra

All three versions are rear-wheel drive and powered by a 292 hp (218 kW / 296 PS) electric motor with 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) of torque. The G7 accelerates from 0–100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.5 to 6.6 seconds, with a top speed of 202 km/h (126 mph).

CLTC-rated range:

  • 602 km (374 miles) for the 602 Max
  • 702 km (436 miles) for both 702 versions

Rapid Charging Capability

Charging is a strong point for the G7. With support for 451 kW DC fast charging, it can add:

  • 436 km (271 miles) in just 10 minutes
  • 10–80% battery in 12 minutes

This makes it one of the fastest-charging EVs in its class, ideal for long trips and quick urban top-ups.

Luxurious and High-Tech Interior

Despite its relatively low price, the G7 offers a premium interior with a strong tech focus:

  • 15.6-inch floating touchscreen
  • Heated, ventilated, and massaging front and rear seats
  • Floating center console with dual 50W wireless chargers
  • Wooden armrests and microfiber roof lining
  • Massive panoramic glass roof
  • Digital rearview mirror
  • 20-speaker premium audio system
  • Fragrance diffuser and ambient lighting with 256 colors
  • 39 smart storage compartments, including a washable frunk

Rear passengers also benefit from:

  • Rear touchscreen control panel
  • Fold-out tray tables with magnetic mounts
  • Wireless charger in the center armrest

Cutting-Edge AI and Driving Technology

Xpeng calls the G7 the “world’s first AI car with L3 computing power,” backed by radar, ultrasonic sensors, cameras, and up to three Turing AI chips.

The system supports:

  • Human-machine co-driving
  • High-speed assisted driving
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane centering and blind spot detection
  • Rear cross traffic alert
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Automatic emergency braking up to 130 km/h
  • Remote parking and summon features

An 87-inch augmented reality head-up display, co-developed with Huawei, completes the tech suite. It supports navigation, safety alerts, and even AR video playback when parked — turning the car into a mobile cinema.

Conclusion: A Price-Disrupting Tech Showcase

The Xpeng G7 makes a powerful statement in the electric SUV space. With its blend of luxury, performance, AI-powered tech, and affordability, it offers more value than many premium competitors — all for under $28,000. For Tesla, Xiaomi, and the rest of the EV industry, the G7 is a new benchmark that demands attention.
