Lucid Says Gravity SUV Sales Higher Than Reported

Update: This article has been updated to include Lucid Motors’ official statement responding to S&P Global Mobility’s reported Gravity SUV registration figures.

Lucid Motors is enjoying rising demand for its Air luxury sedan, but the same cannot yet be said for its high-riding sibling, the Gravity SUV. Despite glowing early reviews and a launch timed to capitalize on the SUV boom, only nine examples of the Lucid Gravity were registered in the first half of 2025 — according to S&P Global Mobility data — raising questions about the brand’s rollout strategy.

Lucid, however, disputes these figures, insisting the true delivery numbers are far higher and attributing the discrepancy to registration timing and a slow production ramp-up.

Highlights at a Glance

  • S&P Global Mobility data shows just nine Lucid Gravity SUVs registered in H1 2025.
  • Lucid disputes the figure, claiming deliveries are in the “multiple hundreds.”
  • Production began in December 2024, with Q1 output focused on demo models.
  • Gravity GT trim offers 828 hp and 450 miles of EPA range.
  • More trims expected in 2026 to boost volume.

The Sales Gap: Numbers That Don’t Add Up

Lucid’s Air sedan logged 4,780 registrations in the first six months of 2025 — up 52% year-on-year — proving the brand can move metal when demand aligns with supply. Given the SUV market’s dominance, industry watchers expected the Gravity to outpace the sedan quickly. Instead, S&P’s nine-unit figure has surprised many, especially as SUVs remain the preferred choice for luxury EV buyers.

Car and Driver called the Gravity a near-perfect execution of its mission, praising its performance, range, and practicality.

Lucid’s Official Response to the Sales Figures

In an email to ActuCars, Lucid Motors described S&P Global Mobility’s reported nine-unit registration figure as “completely inaccurate,” stressing that it does not reflect the company’s current sales performance.

The automaker also referenced comments made by Interim CEO Marc Winterhoff during its latest earnings call, highlighting growing customer interest:

“…many new customers are now experiencing Lucid Gravity in our studios, and we are seeing a high order conversion rate for prospective customers once they experience the vehicle. In fact, our daily order rate has nearly doubled since display and test drive vehicles have been widely delivered to studios.”

Lucid further confirmed to ActuCars that actual Gravity deliveries are “well into the three-digit range,” providing the following statement:

We do not split out our production guidance between Gravity and Air, but we provided guidance for production of between 18,000 and 20,000 total vehicles in 2025. In the second half of the year, we expect that the Gravity will be the majority of production and deliveries.”

“The claim that Lucid has only delivered nine Gravity SUVs is completely inaccurate and a quick review of social media postings from our customers shows that those numbers are simply not credible. While we don’t provide the actual mix of our vehicles delivered, Gravity is significantly more than nine, and the real number is well into the 3-digit range.

Market Position and Specifications

At present, the Gravity is available only in the GT trim, which delivers:

SpecificationDetail
Power Output828 hp (840 PS / 617 kW)
Range (EPA est.)450 miles (724 km)
Base Price$96,550
DrivetrainDual-motor all-wheel drive
Production StartDecember 2024

With such strong specifications, the Gravity enters the luxury SUV segment as one of the most powerful and longest-range EVs available. Yet its launch strategy has limited immediate sales momentum.

Looking Ahead: Trims and Volume Expansion

Lucid plans to broaden the Gravity lineup over the next year, adding more accessible trims to reach a wider customer base. By 2026, with full-scale production underway, the company expects Gravity registrations to surpass the Air sedan’s numbers.

Winterhoff’s cautious approach reflects the brand’s ongoing challenge: balancing growth with financial stability. Lucid remains a loss-making company and has already trimmed its 2025 production forecast. A smooth and steady scale-up of Gravity production will be crucial for both market confidence and revenue.

The Bigger Picture for Lucid

The Gravity’s initial numbers — whether nine or several hundred — are part of a longer-term play. Lucid’s focus on ensuring a premium ownership experience may slow its early sales curve, but the SUV’s performance, range, and practicality give it the tools to become a flagship success.

If the Gravity’s rollout accelerates as promised, it could position Lucid as a formidable competitor in the electric luxury SUV space, helping diversify its lineup beyond the Air sedan and appealing to the broader SUV-loving audience.

What Comes Next
Lucid’s 2025 story for the Gravity is still being written. The SUV has the credentials to win over luxury EV buyers, but turning critical acclaim into strong, sustained sales will depend on how quickly production and deliveries can scale in the months ahead.
