Lucid Offers $7,500 Gravity Discount Amid Policy Shift

The luxury EV market in the United States is facing a major shake-up as the federal government prepares to eliminate the $7,500 electric vehicle tax credit at the end of September. Yet for customers eyeing the Lucid Gravity SUV, there’s good news: Lucid will step in with its own $7,500 Lucid Advantage Credit, ensuring buyers can still benefit from the same savings until the end of 2025.

Key Highlights

  • Federal $7,500 EV tax credit ends September 30 under new policy.
  • Lucid will cover the amount with its Lucid Advantage Credit through December 31.
  • Offer applies to new and existing customers leasing the Gravity SUV.
  • The Lucid Gravity starts at $94,900, with a lower-priced Touring version coming later this year.
  • Production challenges remain due to parts shortages, but output is increasing.

Lucid Steps In After Federal Incentive Cut

The removal of the federal EV tax credit is expected to push prices of eligible electric vehicles higher, potentially slowing adoption at a critical moment. Recognizing the impact this could have on its flagship model, Lucid has announced that it will absorb the cost for buyers.

Customers who order and finalize a lease of the Lucid Gravity between October 1 and December 31 will receive the Lucid Advantage Credit worth $7,500. Existing qualifying lessees will also benefit from the same incentive.

Erwin Raphael, Lucid’s vice president of revenue, emphasized the importance of incentives in encouraging EV adoption, noting that he has witnessed “firsthand” how the tax credit helped consumers transition away from combustion models.

The Financial Strain on Lucid

While the move is a win for customers, it presents a financial challenge for Lucid. By shouldering the credit itself, the company effectively reduces its margins by $7,500 per vehicle leased.

This comes at a delicate time for Lucid, which is still unprofitable and working to expand its position in the competitive luxury EV market. Covering the gap may help boost demand for the Lucid Gravity SUV, but it also means tighter financial discipline will be needed as production scales up.

Production Ramp-Up and Challenges

Production of the Gravity began in late 2024 at Lucid’s Casa Grande, Arizona facility. Drone footage shared by enthusiasts shows hundreds of SUVs staged at the factory, signaling a gradual ramp-up. However, Lucid has faced supply chain issues, particularly shortages of head-up displays and power outlets, slowing the rollout.

Despite these hurdles, the company continues to build momentum, preparing for higher output as more components become available.

Pricing, Versions, and Technical Edge

Currently, the Lucid Gravity is offered in Grand Touring trim, starting at $94,900. Later this year, the more affordable Touring model will open for orders at $79,900, broadening its appeal to a wider audience.

At the heart of the SUV is a 926-volt electrical architecture, one of the most advanced in the industry. This system allows charging speeds of up to 400 kW, enabling drivers to add 200 miles (320 km) of range in under 12 minutes. Such rapid charging capability gives Lucid a competitive edge over many rivals in the high-end EV segment.

Looking Ahead for Lucid Gravity

Lucid’s decision to offset the federal incentive loss demonstrates both resilience and commitment to customers at a time of policy change. By guaranteeing the $7,500 Lucid Advantage Credit, the company keeps the Gravity competitive against other premium EVs.

As production ramps up and new versions enter the market, the Gravity could establish itself as a cornerstone of Lucid’s growth strategy. The next few months will be pivotal in determining whether this bold move helps Lucid secure stronger footing in the luxury SUV segment.
